  • Field Office Mowbray gives you an illusion of being outside of the Mowbray Coffeeshop
It's an illusion of the outdoors.

A Community Cave for Wizardry and Work

The Gear Change in Mowbray is the only coffee shop in the vicinity of Little Mowbray. This makes it a real community cave, especially when the Wi-Fi is down and out in the area. Loved by the locals and ventured to by the cycling community, it’s no surprise that it’s become a real hotspot of wizardry and work.

Atmosphere:

It’s a different coffee shop to most with it actually being a bicycle shop. One would think this makes it noisy and distracting but in actual fact it makes it atmospheric and intriguing. Surrounded by bikes and wooden tables, it really does give you the feeling that you’re nestled in nature. With big tables around, it’s also a great coffee shop to spread out wide and get into your groove.

Coffee & Food:

The coffee is straight up Deluxe but perfectly prepared by the man behind the bar. Their food aint bad either, offering a selection of pastries, muffins, sandwiches and basic breakfasts. If you’re on a budget, they’ve got a great coffee & muffin special for only 40 smakaroos. The muffins are as soft as a baby’s backside and as tasty as a toddler’s tea.

The peeps behind the coffee bar are some of the sweetest souls I’ve met before. Leeroy is a passionate cat, working two jobs to save up to reach his dream of getting an education. He’s been hit a couple times by the unfortunate bus of life but every time I see him, he’s reading a book behind the bar with a smile on his face and he just says to me “It’s fine, don’t worry. I’ll do it.”

If you find yourself stuck in Liesbeek Parkway traffic or you just feel like trying somewhere nice and new, check out The Gear Change located on 37 Durban Road in Little Mowbray.
