The Blue Cafe
The Blue Café is an iconic café tucked beneath the back of Lion’s Head in Tamboerskloef. It’s been a neighbourhood heirloom, open since 1904 and operating as a general dealer, café, deli and even tram station. Now, it’s matured into the cosy gem that it is today. Operating out of a quaint, quirky Tamboerkloof home, you feel like you’re visiting an old friend.
Not only does the Blue Café embrace its customers with a familiar friendliness, it offers a delicious cup of coffee. You’ve got a choice between 3 different beans, a medium roast, a dark roast and a decaffeinated cuppa. You can sit in the deli stocked with biscuits, tea or peanut butter cookies or tables tucked into nooks of an intimate downstairs. Have a pizza, bobotie or one of their many delicious soups that prove authentic home-made cooking can’t be beat. If it’s sunny, have a brekkie out on the pavement that makes the houses opposite you feel like your neighbours.
Homely, honest and flowing with character, the Blue Café is more than just a coffee shop. It’s a piece of Cape Townian history that embodies the hospitality and kindness of this gorgeous city.
