Atmosphere at Tamboers Winkel:
Tamboers winkel is a quintessential coffee shop and wine bar located just off the top of Kloof Street. It’s got the feel of an old traveller’s tavern but the modern style of an upmarket wine bar. Looking at it from the outside, it looks like a hole in the wall but inside the place really opens. You can sit inside at the bar or outside in the bus stop styled seating area. While there is quite a lot of passing traffic, it won’t bother you much as it’s not necessarily overwhelming.
Coffee & Drinks at Tamboers Winkel:
Their coffee is beautifully presented and delicious with every sip. It’s one of those coffees that lingers in your palate and makes you lick your lips every couple seconds. If you’re feeling caffeinated out, fear not because they’ve got plenty of booze. They’ve got between 30 and 50 types of wine by the glass, in addition to bubbly and beer.
The food menu and Tamboers Winkel is full of flavour, flamboyance and fun. They’ve got a couple signature breakfasts including the Shashuka; basically, baked eggs with slow cooked tomatoes, red pepper & harissa. For lunch, they’ve got salad plates with optional proteins, or daily sarmies. They’ve also an assortment of snack plates including nachos, tacos, charcuterie and cheese platters. I’d recommend this spot if you’re looking for something different and want to hang out with some mates. Open from 7 till 11, Tamboers Winkel is perfect for a date, regardless of whether it’s night or day.
