A Local Legend in Claremont
Starlings Cafe is a local legend amongst the people of the Southern Suburbs. It’s a tranquil quaint vibe that will lighten up your day, regardless of if the sun is out or not. It’s a friendly family joint for sure but they’re welcome to students and weekday workers too.
Atmosphere at Starlings Cafe:
Starlings Cafe has got this lovely feeling of suburban love that reminds me of what a community should feel like. It’s that old feeling I would imagine a community center or town square to have, it’s a place where people congregate and catch up. On a cold wintery day, everyone is snuggled up at closely packed tables or around the long white table that sits next to the fire, tapping away on their laptops.
If it’s a hot summers day, the garden is the best place to be. It’s got beautiful ornaments, plentiful trees and beautiful iron tables that make you feel like you’re living in the 20’s. If its sister, Locale in Claremont is the inside of Alice in Wonderland, this is the outside. Sitting in the garden feels like you’re a kid in your neighbour’s crazy garden.
The vibe is very joyous and welcoming. Salih Solomon, a man who doesn’t ask for the wifi password when he walks in had this to say. “In my opinion, it’s the best flat white in the southern suburbs and the warmest staff, including the Rockstar owner Trish.” His sister, Suhair Solomon, spilt the beans saying: “We are literally sitting here, planning his wedding. Big things are done here.” This is just testament to the true community nature of Starlings.
Coffee & Food at Starlings Cafe:
The coffee is a real Origin brew, it’s packed full of flavour and is not bitter, nor sour. All coffees are served in Le Creuset cups & saucers which is in line with our theory that coffee shops that use Le Creuset cups, generally make superb coffee.
I had a chocolate brownie while I was there, it was nutty chocolate explosion that filled my mouth. It had textures and tastes that reminded me of my mom’s homecooked brownies. The food on the menu makes me think of farm stall food, a mix of quiches, sandwiches, wraps and salads. Starlings is a bit more expensive than a farmstall, but it’s in the heart of suburbia so bearing that in mind, it’s not too bad.
If you’re looking for a familiar family farm stall in the heart of the suburbs. Check out Starlings Cafe located on 94 Belvedere Road in Claremont.
