A Coffee Shop to Find your Family

Feeling lonely or feeling blue? Well then join the family and get involved in a captivating conversation about anything, your life, your memories or even the Queen of England.

There’s a real feeling of friendship and family in the air, with plenty love to spare. The feeling is oddly uncomfortable at first, old grey gizzems chat to you like they’ve known you for years but as time subsides, the feeling becomes inclusive rather than uncomfortable.
There’s a real sense of community here with all types of perspectives popping in and being welcomed with open arms. Their arms spread wide, under arm hair flaring but all the love in the world that’s used for caring. With the Hive for the down-trodden across the road, the real feeling in the air is that we can do a lot more if we don’t stop and stare.

Coffee & Food:

Their coffee has that real homely feel, not the perfect hand behind the bean but still delivering that caffeine kick that’ll make you want to paddle right out into the water at Muizenberg.
I had a double scramble-packed croissant that was simply sensational. It was buttery, salty and delicious but the best part was that it was only thirty-five bucks! The rest of the menu is thudderingly thrifty, offering boastful breakfasts, light lunches and pizzas for those lazy dinner time cravings. I even heard someone heading to the kitchen to ask the staff: “Wow, what an omelette, who made this delicious thing?”

The Story:

I sat down with June, the founder of Joon, to get the secret story. Joon started three years ago in an attempt to bring people back to the tiny village on Palmer Road. It took the locals a while to come to the party and become regulars but recently the local support has grown massively and the audience has grown greater, now serving surfers and tourists too. Joon has always been an entrepreneur, selling biscuits and jams when living on a farm in Darling. Now an entrepreneur alongside her daughter, June hopes to grow Joon into a local location for thought, thanks and family.

If you’re keen for a salty surf or just keen to get out of the Cape Town kak, then take a trip to what feels like another world and pop into Joon on 42 Palmer Road, Muizenberg 7950 for a coffee and a croissant.
