A Kalk Bay Cafe fit for Rustic Royalty
Courtyard Café is a hidden haven in the heart of Kalk Bay. It sits in the courtyard of the Artvark Gallery and overlooks Kalk Bay Main Road and the deep blue ocean that runs into the distance. Courtyard Cafe is a superbly sunny spot that is easily overlooked if one is not careful.
Coffee and Drinks:
The barista behind the bar was also a man with strikingly stable right hand, pouring a stunning swan to the top of my coffee. They’ve also got bears, wine, champagne and a range of hot drinks to choose from.
The menu is full of fun, with a variety of options being served. These options range from scones and muffins to burgers and breakfasts with a lunch menu having a couple great vegan choices. I had a slice of carrot cake while I was there and unfortunately it wasn’t the best in town. I’d rather opt for a sandwich or a salad which you can get from under R50 bucks.
For me, this spot is really about the views. If you sit in the courtyard by the window, you’ll be treated to views of the sunrise and the sea. It’s got that kind of view that keeps you staring out the window, ensuring all your worries be gone. If it’s a hot day and you decide to sit in the courtyard, you’ll find pleasure with an entirely different type of landscape, the mountain. The warm sun will tan your skin while you gaze upon the green and grey coloured mountain above.
The atmosphere inside is cute and cosy with a strong artistic element in the air. Scattered around the courtyard hang pieces of art made out of metal that add to the rather rustic vibe. The art is also for sale with a gallery attached alongside the restaurant. It’s cut off from the loud noises of the traffic passing, allowing for subtle sounds of the birds and the bees.
If you’re looking for a lovely café in Kalk Bay that has both a rustic and royal feel, then Courtyard Café is your spot. Located on Kalk Bay Main Road, it’s an easy spot to get to from the Train Station or one of the many parking lots in Kalk Bay.
