A Shipping Container turned Coffee Shop
What’s that shipping container doing in a beach parking lot? Oh, it’s a coffee shop called the Bench Coffee Company.
What used to be known as a pop up espresso bar service for events is now probably more famous for serving great coffee from this little shipping container by the beach. A favourite for many locals, Bench Coffee deserves this reputation, even if only for the incredible atmosphere. The area is quiet and secluded, the beach is a few steps away and the staff are all great, making good conversation and remembering their customer’s stories and orders from past visits. Few spots can create this laid back, welcoming atmosphere.
The crowd Bench attracts seems to fit the aforementioned atmosphere. There’s no shortage of surfers who are getting a coffee and a chat in between waves and work. The occasional family also stops by for some hot chocolate and coffee, which are both rather good. The coffee is from one of KZN’s most beloved roasteries, Steampunk and is masterfully prepared, delivering the most beautiful milk texture in all of Ballito. The smooth feeling of their flat whites cannot be overrated.
Bench Coffee has also got some crunchies and brownies on sale as well as some croissants, but the latter isn’t always available as they depend on Woolworths for it.
For one of the most refreshing coffee experiences around, head down to Tiffany’s beach. Grab a cup from their little blue container, have a seat on one of the rustic benches around a little cactus. Enjoy the sound of the ocean, the breeze and the conversation a pair of surfers are having about last night’s rugby.
